The Rotary Club of Bedford hosted another successful Bike Helmet Giveaway on Saturday, May 9, behind the Bedford Police Station, helping local children prepare for a safe biking season despite the rain and chilly weather.
Approximately 30 children were fitted with and received free new bicycle helmets during the semi-annual event. Volunteers ensured that each helmet fit properly so children would be protected while riding throughout the community.
The event was truly a community partnership. Members of the Bedford Police Department conducted a bicycle safety course, giving children an opportunity to practice safe riding skills and learn important traffic and safety rules. Parishioners from the First Baptist Church of Bedford provided free bicycle tune-ups, helping families make sure their bikes were road-ready for the season.
In addition, volunteers from the “Be Seen, Be Safe” project distributed reflective armbands and bicycle safety information to encourage visibility and safe riding habits for cyclists of all ages.
Although the weather was less than ideal, the strong turnout and enthusiastic participation made the event a great success. The Rotary Club of Bedford extends its gratitude to all of the volunteers, partners, and families who helped make the day possible and continue to support bicycle safety in the Bedford community. The next bike safety event is tentatively scheduled for early September.
