Our pollinator garden is in bloom but it's time to attack some of the weeds that have taken over various spots. No gardening expertise is needed! Bring your gardening gloves and tools. We'll do what we can in an hour and schedule another garden day to plant some other plants later in the month. Bring your friends! |

This is a changing world, we must be prepared to change with it - Paul Harris

Just as routine doctor’s visits help us identify health risks before they become serious, a club health check can diagnose problem areas and prescribe remedies. We're going to embark on a club health check (download here: https://my.rotary.org/en/document/rotary-club-health-check) to see what is working in the club and what we should think of changing. |

Similar to last year, we'll be selling pizza from 10am - 2pm and we need YOUR help to be successful. There are plenty of opportunities ranging from 1-2 hours, so even if you can only stay for a short time, hopefully there's something that works for everyone. The underlined links below take you to the Sign Up Genius page with available slots.
If you are able to help with set up, tear down, selling pizza or picking up food and supplies, please sign up for the Food booth.
If you would prefer to spend your time sharing the virtues of joining or supporting our club, please sign up for the Information booth.
Please sign up by September 15 so we have enough time to fill any gaps we might have.
We look forward to another fun and successful Bedford Day. Please let me know if you have any difficulty with the sign up page or if you have any additional questions about volunteering.

Participatory budgeting - what is it and why is it relevant to Bedford Rotary?
Oct 22, 2024 12:30 PM
In the Spring of '24 at Tufts, with group members in her Solidarity Economics course, Katherine participated in a semester-long project supporting a non-profit's evaluation of Boston's pilot Participatory Budgeting process.
Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. It gives people real power over real money- because community members are experts!
So...why is this relevant to Bedford Rotary you ask? We are all individuals living in a community with thoughts and ideas on ways to improve it. The trick is, that even stellar local governments can't read our minds on how we'd like our budgets spent, and town meetings only reach a small amount of the total population. PB is spreading quickly; processes have popped up in cities and towns like Lexington, Cambridge, Sommerville, and more.
You'll have an opportunity to understand the driving goals behind the movement, the process basics on how community input is collected, and get to discuss the sorts of improvements you would advocate for in your home town.
